Job Title:
General Utility Worker Job Description This role supports a high-volume food production facility by rotating through sanitation/pack-off, packing, palletizing, and box making areas. You help keep production running smoothly by maintaining cleanliness, preparing materials, inspecting products, and handling finished goods safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Rotate between sanitation/pack-off, packing, palletizing, and box making stations as needed to support production demands. Dispose of extra materials that will not be used and break down incoming packages and labels for proper disposal. Separate waste into designated streams, including general trash, cardboard, and plastic, to support facility housekeeping and recycling efforts. Spray machines and containers with disinfectant and assist with sanitation activities to maintain a clean and safe production environment. Assist with preparing machine start-ups and disassembling machines for sanitation according to established procedures. Place bags of finished goods into boxes, ensuring products are handled carefully and packed correctly. Visually inspect finished goods for defects and remove nonconforming products from the line. Complete required paperwork accurately and on time to document production, inspections, and other relevant information. Visually inspect cases to ensure proper sealing and labeling before they leave the production area. Operate a pallet jack safely to move finished pallets within the facility. Assemble and disassemble machinery for sanitation as directed, following safety and cleanliness standards. Document all findings related to product quality, equipment condition, and sanitation activities. Palletize finished boxes weighing up to 50 lbs, stacking them safely and securely. Maintain an adequate supply of boxes and labels for the production lines to prevent downtime. Verify that labeling matches specification sheets and ensure boxes are free from damage before use. Document the movement of finished and raw materials to support inventory accuracy. Work consistently in a refrigerated production environment and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety guidelines. Essential Skills Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs continuously throughout a 10-hour shift. Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow instructions, complete paperwork, and communicate with team members. At least 1 year of work history demonstrating reliability and consistent attendance. Experience in production, general production, packaging, or inspection environments is strongly preferred. Capability to operate basic production equipment and tools safely after training. Attention to detail for visual inspection of products, labels, and packaging. Willingness to work in a refrigerated GMP food production environment. Ability to follow sanitation procedures and maintain cleanliness standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with food production or meat processing environments is beneficial. Experience using pallet jacks or similar material handling equipment is an advantage. Comfort working with repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy and quality. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to rotate between different roles as needed. Willingness to learn equipment assembly and disassembly for sanitation purposes. Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or similar quality standards. Why Work Here? You join a stable production environment that offers clear progression and regular pay growth. At six months, you become eligible to level up to an operator role with a pay increase, and after one year, you can advance to higher levels. All employees receive a 2.5% annual increase each January, and overtime is paid for hours worked beyond 8 per shift, creating strong earning potential. Starting pay rate of $16/hr. Work Environment This position operates on a first shift schedule, typically from 5:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, with most Saturdays required. You can expect to work more than 50 hours per week, with a maximum of 60 hours, and any hours worked over 8 per shift are paid as overtime. The facility is a GMP food production environment where you follow strict hygiene and safety standards. You wear an overcoat, gloves, hardhat, ear plugs, safety glasses, and knee-high non-slip rubber boots while on the production floor. The entire production area is refrigerated, typically between 30 and 40 degrees, so you must be comfortable working in a cold environment for extended periods. You will work around food processing equipment and packaging lines, handling materials, finished goods, and pallets in a structured, safety-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
