Generation Operator / Data Technician (Power Department)

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs skilled technical and administrative duties related to the operation and monitoring of municipal gas-powered electrical generation facilities and the maintenance of system data. Supports safe and reliable generation operations through equipment monitoring, system control, data management, reporting, and coordination with electric distribution operations. 3.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operates, monitors, and controls municipal electric generation equipment, including starting, synchronizing, loading, and shutting down generating units.
• Monitors SCADA and plant control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
• Records and maintains operational data including load, voltage, frequency, fuel usage, and performance metrics.
• Conducts routine inspections of engines, generators, switchgear, and auxiliary systems.
• Identifies abnormal conditions and responds to alarms or emergency events in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists with preventative maintenance activities and scheduled outages.
• Maintains fuel systems and environmental compliance systems.
• Maintains and updates electric system GIS and asset records.
• Supports AMI/AMR meter data downloads, validation, and analysis.
• Maintains work order systems and maintenance records with the AMI system.
• Compiles and analyzes feeder and transformer load data.
• Prepares monthly and annual operational and performance reports with NG generator.
• Assists with capital improvement documentation and budget-related data.
• Coordinates with billing staff to resolve meter discrepancies with the AMI system.
• Ensures accuracy, integrity, and quality control of operational and customer data.
• Participates in on-call rotation and responds to after-hours emergencies.
• Coordinates with line crews, contractors, and administrative staff to support system reliability and restoration efforts.
• Performs related duties as required. 4. Special Qualifications
• Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A. High school diploma or equivalent; AND B. Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in electric utility operations, industrial plant operations, or utility data management; OR C. Equivalent combination of formal education and experience Licenses / Certifications /

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Tasks require a variety of physical activities including, but not limited to:

• Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching Lifting up to 50 pounds Work may involve exposure to energized electrical equipment, rotating machinery, noise, temperature extremes, and fuel systems.

Attention to detail, technical problem-solving, situational awareness, and the ability to respond effectively under emergency conditions. Strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

Work Location Requirement:

Workers in this position perform in both a municipal generation facility and office setting with appropriate safety controls, and some field work will be required. 9.
