May 28, 2026, 4:59:00 AM Description The Texas General Land Office is seeking an Accountant IV (Gas Accountant) within the Energy Resources Department of the agency. The Gas Accountant performs complex (journey-level) accounting work. Work involves natural gas supply for SEMP. May serve as a backup for other roles in our department. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. What Your Contributions to the GLO Will be:
  • Verify and reconcile payable invoices from vendors.
Prepare and process payment forms for Financial Management to send payments on a timely basis. Inform SEMP director of material irregularities or anomalies detected. Maintain a current list of vendor contact information. Answer vendor and customer inquiries as needed. Ensure all scheduling data from acquired gas sources is received to actualize deliveries. Make recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of imbalances from actualization.

Produce the required weekly and monthly inter and intra-agency reports to comply with the required information and identify any actions from stakeholders that are needed for completion. Provide contracting status reports and assists in the development of appropriate evaluation factors and techniques for implementing efficient business functions.
  • Cross train with Accounts Receivable and serve as primary backup for accounts receivable functions. Prepare invoices and support spreadsheets for SEMP customers on a timely basis.
  • Monitor correspondence, issues, and action items to facilitate timely responses and resolution of issues, including assisting in management directed Open Records requests.
Communicate both verbally and in written format with customers, management, and SEMP gas operations external third parties. Use Quorum system as it pertains to SEMP activities and maximizes its potential to fully utilize the system to accurately reflect, track, and calculate SEMP contracting activities. Produce accurate and efficient data extraction reports from Quorum supporting SEMP activities.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business or related field plus four (4) years of experience in oil and gas, utilities, purchasing or field related to the agency program. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
