Job Title:
Sanitation Worker Job Description The Sanitation Worker effectively cleans and maintains all assigned areas inside and outside a fast-paced manufacturing plant, including production equipment, machinery, and general grounds. This role follows strict food safety and sanitation standards, operates plant touch screens to run Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures, and adheres to HAACP principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The Sanitation Worker uses a variety of cleaning tools and chemicals safely and correctly to support a clean, efficient, and compliant production environment. Responsibilities Clean and sanitize all assigned areas inside and outside the manufacturing plant, including production floors, equipment, machinery, and general grounds. Follow all food safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure a safe and compliant production environment. Operate plant touch screens and follow established Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures for equipment and systems. Adhere to HAACP principles and related sanitation protocols during all cleaning activities. Use cleaning tools such as squeegees, mops, brooms, hand and floor scrapers, and paint brushes in a safe and effective manner. Handle, mix, and apply cleaning products and sanitizers correctly, following all instructions and safety guidelines. Read and understand labels and safety information on cleaning chemicals and sanitizers before use. Support janitorial and custodial duties throughout the facility, including general cleaning, sanitizing, and waste removal. Maintain sanitation in both food production and non-food production areas as required by the facility. Communicate effectively with production and shipping/receiving teams to coordinate cleaning around operations and minimize downtime. Follow all safety rules, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe footwear. Report any sanitation, safety, or equipment issues promptly to the appropriate personnel. Contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient work area at all times. Essential Skills 2-3 years of sanitation experience in a manufacturing setting preferred. Experience with sanitation or janitorial duties in production, food production, food manufacturing, or similar industrial environments. Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production facility. Understanding and application of HAACP principles in sanitation tasks. Ability to follow Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures using plant touch screens and related systems. Proficient in using sanitation tools such as squeegees, mops, brooms, hand and floor scrapers, and paint brushes. Ability to read and understand labels and instructions on cleaning chemicals and sanitizers. Experience with industrial cleaning, sanitizing, and custodial work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work safely with chemicals and cleaning agents, following all safety and handling guidelines. Strong communication skills to work effectively with production and shipping/receiving teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Sanitation experience from other environments outside manufacturing will be considered. Familiarity with food production or food manufacturing processes is an advantage. Comfort working in both edible and non-edible product environments. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, production-based setting with frequent communication. Reliability and consistency in following established procedures and schedules. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a medium-sized manufacturing company that produces both edible and non-edible products in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Work takes place in close coordination with production and shipping/receiving departments, requiring frequent communication and cooperation. The sanitation worker supports operations in a smaller shipping/receiving department and across the plant as needed. The environment includes typical manufacturing conditions, with exposure to production equipment, cleaning chemicals, and active processing areas. The position follows a first-shift schedule, with a start time between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and an end time no later than 5:30 p.m. Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the dress code, along with any other personal protective equipment specified by site safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Abingdon, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
