In the scope of programming and transition efforts, the department supports the mission of Columbus State University and assists students and their families into and through their collegiate experience. Orientation recruits, orientates, advises, and registers incoming students through a holistic transition of providing information, resources, leadership, and addresses the transitional needs of incoming CSU students and families into the campus community. Parent Programs serves as the primary link between parents, students and the University through programs and initiatives for parents to support and maximize student success.Objectives:
Orientation and Parent Programs¿ commitment to help incoming students and families of current students, into and through college by: Recruit, orientate, advise and register incoming students. Strive to prepare incoming students and families to seek curricular and co-curricular programs. Provide information, resources, leadership and address the transition needs of an incoming students. Assist students in establishing healthy connections between students, staff, and faculty. Link families and the Columbus community to Columbus State University. Empower families to support and maximize their student¿s success.Duties and Responsibilities:
Orientation; Assist in planning, scheduling and implementation of the new student/transfer/extended orientation programs; Oversee recruitment and selection process of orientation leaders; Facilitate leadership retreat for orientation leaders; Assist in preparation and implementation of an orientation leadership workshop which meets one hour a week in the Spring semester and includes teaching campus knowledge; leadership, and team development; Oversee and manage logistical services for orientation; Participate in the development and operating goals and objectives for the unit; Oversee the ordering process for orientation supplies; Responsible for the distribution of surveys and collection of orientation data; Assist with implementation of mailings (print and email) for orientation sessions; Oversee ordering and distribution of uniforms for orientation student staff; Remain current on university programs and changes within the academic schools and colleges; Respond to email and telephone inquiries; Represent Columbus State University at conferences, meetings, and other official functions; Perform other duties as assigned Parent and Family Programs; Assist in planning and implementing Fall Parent and Family Day; Responsible for writing and designing monthly digital newsletter; Respond to email and telephone inquiries; Represent Columbus State University at conferences, meeting, and other official functions; Perform other duties as assigned Office of Student Life and Development; Participate and assist in the implementation and execution of major events held by the university such as; ROAR Orientation; Cougar Kickoff; Homecoming; Holiday Tip Off; All other campus initiatives as assigned.Organizational Relationships:
Reports to the advisor of Orientation and Parent Programs. The position receives oral and written advice and/or instructions from the advisor. The position has indirect supervision over the Orientation Team.Position Requirements:
Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Columbus State University. Well organized and able to multi-task as needed. Bachelor's Degree. Valid driver's license. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs. Possess organizational skills, abilities to multi-task and follow through on assigned responsibilities. Model appropriate behavior for student leaders and the campus community.Preferred Requirements:
Familiar with student development theory and related educational theories. Seeking a Masters or PhD in Higher Education or a related field. Experience in advising undergraduate students. Experience in programming. Experience working with students, parents, university administrators and faculty. The salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position requires 19 contact hours per week with some evenings and weekends required. The position is a ten-month academic year appointment, with summer appointment contingent upon funding.
