About Us:
Mid-Iowa Cooperative, founded in 1907, operates seventeen grain facilities, with seven locations full-service feed mills through Mid-Iowa Milling, LLC. The cooperative employs eight full-time Grain Originators who provide marketing services, crop insurance, and brokerage support. With our 25 grain semis we offer full-time grain hauling from farms or fields to our facilities or directly to end users.
Position Summary:
A Grain Settlement Coordinator may be responsible for accurate settlements of grain purchases, sales, inventory, DPR, Storage, WHR, Long/Short position and contracts within our agricultural operation. The role ensures compliance with State and Federal requirements and helps to assist operational decision making based off accurate job performance information derived from these job duties. The person must maintain a strong relationship with producers, customers, and internal team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Process grain settlements, including discounts, premiums, storage, drying, and service charges. Record grain purchases, sales, transfers, and shrink adjustments with accurate pricing and quantities. Reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly grain inventories across all locations. Verify scale tickets, load data, and grading information for accuracy. Reconcile grain contracts (basis, HTA, futures-fixed, and cash) and track fulfillment. Reconcile hedge positions with merchandising staff and brokerage statements. Prepare month-end journal entries related to grain inventory, hedging, and cost of goods sold. Support financial statement preparation, reporting, and variance analysis. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting procedures, and company policies. Provide audit support through accurate documentation and transaction details. Communicate with producers regarding settlements, contract balances, and account questions. Resolve discrepancies related to tickets, grades, pricing, or contract terms. Provide accurate and timely statements, reports, and account summaries. Track futures, options, and basis positions to ensure accurate market reporting. Monitor margin calls and support hedge accounting documentation. Maintain accurate data in grain accounting systems. Support process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and workflow. Assist with system upgrades, testing, and training (Stone X, Harvest, Oakland). Adapt to evolving work processes and system changes.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Agribusiness, or related field (or equivalent experience). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and customer service. Familiarity with grain grading, shrink, basis, and hedging concepts preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Office-based role with regular interaction with scale operators, merchandisers, operations staff and grain customers. Occasional travel to elevator locations or company sites.
