Groundskeeper

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Care for trees and shrubs including trimming, watering, and pruning. 2. Care for lawns, including mowing, edging, trimming, cleaning, raking, and fertilizing. 3. Care for flower beds, including watering, pruning, and adding chemicals/soil amendments. 4. Clean parking lots, including filling pot holes with black top; pick up trash and other debris. 5. Perform minor cleaning and repair of grounds equipment such as checking oil level, lubrication, cleaning, and safety items. 6. Perform repairs and clean sprinkler heads on irrigation systems. 7. Move, assemble, disassemble, and repair district furniture and equipment 8. Perform routine maintenance and repairs to district equipment and tools 9. Haul trash and debris 10. Respond to emergency call backs after hours, holidays and on weekends. • Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples necessarily include all of the duties performed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Some knowledge of planting and care of trees, shrubbery, and grass. Ability to operate grounds keeping equipment/tools; follow detailed oral/written instructions; read and understand labels; and have good work relations with fellow employees. Ability to recognize problem areas (damage to property, equipment breakdowns, etc.) and report them to supervisor. Ability/willingness to follow rules/regulations and instructions of supervisor; learn new tasks/techniques. May be required to lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs.; subjected to mechanical/electrical/chemical hazards; work outdoors in inclement weather; manipulate hand tools while exerting moderate physical strength or while in cramped/strained positions; exposed to dust/fumes; wear protective clothing; work irregular hours. Pre-employment physical exam required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Current Texas Driver's License preferred. (Must be insurable through MVISD insurers)
