Hardware & Firmware Engineer

The Server Hardware & Firmware Engineer supports the development, validation, and sustaining of server hardware and firmware for Wiwynn's IT server manufacturing operations. This role focuses on hands-on execution: debugging hardware/firmware issues, supporting prototype and production builds, and working cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, NPI, and global engineering teams to ensure stable, repeatable, and compliant product performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Hardware/Firmware Debug & Sustaining Support root cause analysis of hardware and firmware issues identified during

EVT/DVT/PVT

builds and production. Assist with troubleshooting server components (motherboards, CPUs, memory, storage, power, NICs, firmware/BIOS/BMC). Collect logs and evidence, reproduce issues, and document findings for escalation and corrective action. Support failure analysis and implement verification steps to confirm fixes. Validation & Testing Support Execute validation plans for hardware/firmware changes and releases under guidance from senior engineers. Support functional testing, regression testing, and basic performance checks. Document test results, defects, and validation evidence required for audit/customer readiness. NPI & Manufacturing Support Support NPI builds by assisting with line readiness, process adherence, and technical support during pilot runs. Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to address build issues and improve repeatability. Assist in creating/updating work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and training materials for production support. Change Control & Documentation Support engineering change implementation (ECR/ECO process) by validating changes and ensuring documentation is updated. Maintain accurate records of issues, actions, and outcomes in internal tracking systems. Ensure required documentation is complete for internal/external audits. Cross-Functional Collaboration Communicate clearly with global engineering teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Participate in issue review meetings and provide status updates on assigned tasks. Support continuous improvement efforts related to product stability, test coverage, and manufacturing yield. Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred. 2-5 years of experience in server hardware, firmware, validation, NPI, or manufacturing engineering support preferred (internship or co-op experience acceptable). Experience in a manufacturing or high-volume electronics environment is a plus. Skills Basic understanding of server hardware architecture and common components. Familiarity with firmware concepts (BIOS, BMC, CPLD, drivers) and troubleshooting methodology. Ability to analyze logs and test results; strong problem-solving skills. Comfortable working with tools such as Linux/Windows command line, log collection utilities, and ticket/defect tracking systems. Strong documentation skills and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure during builds and production escalations. Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams. Work Environment Combination of office, lab, and manufacturing support environment. May require presence on production floor during builds, issue containment, and validations. Occasional support outside normal hours during critical events (pilot builds, customer escalations). Physical Demands Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods between lab and production areas. Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs. (servers, test equipment) as needed. Ability to work around electronic equipment using required PPE and ESD controls.
