Job Description
The Assistant will be helping to lead our harvesting and packing house operations. That means leading a team, fulfilling produce orders for our distribution of CSA shares, home delivery, retail outlets and wholesale accounts. This is an essential and valuable role on the farm, being the final point between the fields and our customers. The Assistant is part of a vegetable team and needs to be able to give a hand in other areas as needed. In the summer, it is needed to help train the field crew into harvesting efficiently and keeping high quality standards in mind. The ideal applicant would be passionate about local food systems, enjoy training and leading the work of others, uphold and communicate about quality standards. Responsibilities Assist with harvesting crops efficiently and safely Support warehouse activities including inventory management and material handlin Help to coordinate & maintain day to-day packing house operations: wash, pack, distribution & quality control of produce, train the crew Help to maintain field harvest inventories, weekly harvest plans, including daily harvest list in coordination with Field Manager Coordinate crew tasks together with other field managers Lead wash & pack teams during packing days, maintain specific timeframes and deadlines Maintain supply inventories Support harvest teams in field, help train and maintain quality Additional field work could be transplanting, hand weeding, greenhouse work etc. Experience One or more years experience on a vegetable farm ( 2 years preferred) Knowledge about produce handling Interest in teaching people Being able to lift 50 lb Team player and able to work with all kinds of people Ability to work outside in all weather conditions Detail, reliable, hard working Positive attitude and team spirit Willingness to commit to the farm for the season from mid March to Mid December Candidates should be reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a team environment.
