Job Title:
Haul Truck Operator Job Description This role operates articulated dump trucks and support equipment to haul dirt from basins and assist with erosion control activities on a large solar farm project. You will safely operate CAT 725 and CAT 730 haul trucks, support civil construction and earthwork operations, and perform site labor related to erosion and sediment control. Responsibilities Operate CAT 725 and CAT 730 articulated dump trucks to haul dirt from basins as part of erosion control and basin conversion work. Drive and operate 12-ton and 20-ton Caterpillar articulating dump trucks and large hydrant trucks in a safe and efficient manner. Support earthwork and civil construction activities, including dirt work and fine grading as directed by site supervision. Perform SWPPP-related labor tasks such as laying straw matting, installing erosion control measures, setting silt fence, shoveling, raking, and other manual labor duties. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of haul trucks and equipment, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly. Follow all site safety procedures, traffic patterns, and equipment operation guidelines while working on an active solar farm. Work collaboratively with other equipment operators, laborers, and site personnel to maintain productivity and meet project schedules. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of tools, materials, and equipment. Adapt to changing site conditions and tasks, assisting with additional civil labor or equipment operation as needed. Essential Skills Proven experience operating dump trucks, specifically CAT 725 and CAT 730 articulated haul trucks. Demonstrated ability to operate 12-ton and 20-ton Caterpillar articulating dump trucks and large hydrant trucks safely. Hands-on experience with dirt work, earthworks, and heavy equipment operation in a construction or civil construction environment. Ability to perform SWPPP and erosion control tasks, including straw matting installation, silt fence installation, shoveling, raking, and related labor. Strong understanding of safe equipment operation practices on active construction sites. Capability to work extended hours, including 5-6 days per week and 50+ hours per week, in outdoor conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating on a solar farm or on large erosion control projects is highly beneficial. Background in civil construction, earthworks, or track hoe and other heavy equipment operation is a plus. OSHA 10 certification is a plus. Equipment operation certifications are a plus. Any additional operating or civil labor experience is considered an asset. Why Work Here? Work Environment You work primarily on a solar farm that is in phases 2-3 of civil construction, where major civil work has already been completed but ongoing earthwork and erosion control activities continue. The schedule typically consists of 5-6 working days per week and 50+ hours per week, requiring reliability and comfort with overtime. The role is fully field-based in an outdoor construction environment, involving exposure to varying weather conditions and active heavy equipment operations. You wear standard work clothing suitable for construction sites, and the company provides required personal protective equipment (PPE). A per diem is paid for each day worked, supporting travel and daily expenses while on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Alton, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
