Job Description Position Summary:
The Head Cheerleading Coach & Athletic Success Coach is responsible for leading a competitive LIU Cheerleading program, including gameday activities, recruitment, community engagement, and student-athlete development. This position supervises and instructs the LIU Cheerleading Teams at both the Post and Brooklyn campuses and oversees program operations, including budgeting, recruiting, and team appearances. Additionally, this role serves as an Athletic Success Coach for a designated caseload of students within the LIU Spirit program, providing academic, personal, and career support from pre-enrollment through graduation. Responsibilities include monitoring academic progress and eligibility, supporting retention efforts, and connecting students to campus resources to promote overall student-athlete success.Key Responsibilities:
Head Coach Responsibilities:
Lead the recruitment and retention of the all-girl and co-ed LIU Cheer teams at the Post campus and the game-day squad at the Brooklyn Campus. Develop, organize, and manage the Finley Mascot Team. Oversee all aspects of the cheer program, including practices, performances, competitions, travel, equipment, social media, and the overall LIU Cheer student-athlete experience. Must utilize ethics in coaching techniques and in injury prevention. Manage the overall cheer program budget, ensuring that the program stays within the budgeted expenses and generates non-tuition revenue through fundraising for the program. Work with LIU Auxiliary Services and LIU Athletics Operations to schedule facilities. Help form partnerships and relationships with national and local high school cheer coaches and organizations that help attract top cheerleaders to the University. Travel with the team for games, competitions, and other appearances as necessary. Assist in the coordination of the LIU Spirit program alongside the Head Dance Coach and Marching Band Director to ensure a dynamic Division I game-day experience. Represent LIU Cheer and LIU Spirit at University events and admissions functions. Develop and execute youth summer cheer camps to develop a recruitment pipeline and fundraise for LIU Cheer, LIU Athletics, and the University.- Adhere to all rules and regulations of LIU Athletics, Student Affairs, and the University.
Athletic Success Coach :
Manage a caseload of student-athletes by providing holistic academic, personal, and career coaching focused on retention, persistence, eligibility, and graduation. Monitor academic progress, attendance, and NCAA eligibility through proactive outreach, early alerts, and individualized intervention plans. Utilize student success systems and data to track engagement, persistence, and academic performance of assigned student-athletes. Support career readiness initiatives aligned with NACE standards, including resume development, internship preparation, graduate school planning, and career exploration. Promote student-athlete engagement with Handshake, internships, student employment, and career-related opportunities. Support transition and retention initiatives for first-year, transfer, international, and at-risk student-athletes. Maintain accurate advising notes, reports, and documentation while ensuring compliance with institutional and NCAA policies.Education Requirements:
A bachelor's degree is required.Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
1- 3 years of progressive professional coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting.
Working Conditions:
Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to properly execute the position's role. Travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of training, meetings and other university functions is required.About LIU Post:
