CONTACT Job Description Position Summary:
The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Management at Long Island University (Post campus) is seeking a full-time, non tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Theatre. LIU Post Theatre curriculum is deeply committed to the intersection of theory and practice and offers students innovative undergraduate training that synthesizes physical and psychological approaches in a cohesive, collaborative, pedagogical trajectory. We are home to the Award-winning Post Theatre Company (PtC).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a full-time faculty member for the BFA Acting & BFA Musical Theatre programs
  • Teach 24 credits per academic year. Courses in the program include Intermediate and Advanced Acting, Voice & Speech, Advanced Theatre Movement, Advanced Voice & Speech, Directing
  • Serve as an adjudicator for incoming student auditions and other recruitment endeavors
  • Represent the program at campus-wide events like Open Houses, Accepted Students Days, and Commencement
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Prepare outcomes assessment reports and contribute to strategic planning documents
  • Serve on departmental, college, and/or University-wide committees
  • Support PtC Mainstage season through season selection committee
  • Support student performance opportunities as a faculty advisor for Production Lab
  • Support production needs in terms of discipline-specific service/coaching
  • Collaborate with Theatre and Dance faculty to maintain a rigorous curriculum
  • Foster repeatable, reliable pedagogy that is consent-forward, identity-conscious, and trauma-informed
  • Maintain an active scholarly/artistic profile that demonstrates distinction
Required Qualifications:
  • MFA or Ph.D. (or extensive professional experience) in Theatre - specifically in Acting, with a specialty in Movement, Voice and Speech, or Directing. Candidates must have extensive experience in practice-based, studio performance
  • Candidates should demonstrate notable professional and academic achievements, including innovative pedagogy
  • Applicants should have a 3 or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Preferred qualifications include: Movement, Viewpoints, Michael Chekhov, Laban, Suzuki, Lecoq, Grotowski, and other movement methodologies
