Position Summary The head strength and conditioning coach reports to the Associate AD for Sprots Medicine and will be responsible for all aspects of design, development, implementation, monitoring and assessment of strength and conditioning programs for approximately 400 student- athletes competing in 16 intercollegiate programs at the NCAA Division II level. The Head Coach will work cooperatively with coaching and athletic training staff to develop team and individualized programs in a positive and motivating environment. Provide insight regarding health and nutrition as it relates to physical development. Responsible for oversight and maintenance of two weight rooms and all equipment. Responsible for the oversight of budget, staff, and administrative processes related to the strength and conditioning program. Responsible for hiring graduate assistant coach. Position Responsibilities Coaching Establish and sustain an environment that is marked by the highest priority of safety, attention to detail, respect for all, commitment to improving strength, conditioning and improvement as well as teamwork. Collaborate with coaching staffs to incorporate desired and specific goals into overall strength & conditioning plan. Provide testing, training and progress reports to coaches and supervisor (as required/requested). Provide proper instruction, supervision and motivation to all student-athletes. Work closely with the athletic training staff to help improve injury prevention and facilitate rehabilitation. Teach and advise student athletes on proper methods of rest and recovery. Provide basic nutritional guidelines as they pertain to athletic development. Pursue professional development opportunities in the field of strength and conditioning. Maintain all necessary credentials. Administration and Supervision Establish and maintain the usage schedule for both weight rooms throughout the academic year. Hire, train and supervise work study students and/or interns to assist with supervision and maintenance. Oversee the ordering and maintenance of equipment. Oversee the general maintenance of both weight rooms to ensure it is both safe and impressive for UIU athletes and prospective student-athletes. Assist with administration on budget for the Strength & Conditioning program within the Athletics Department. Assist in fundraising efforts for strength and conditioning equipment and other needs. Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules. Other Participate in campus visits with prospective student-athletes. Interact with various campus offices, including faculty members and staff. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related field. A minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a credentialed strength and conditioning coach. Credentials and membership in nationally recognized strength and conditioning organization (NSCA CSCS or equal). Current First aid, CPR and AED certification. Demonstrated effectiveness and proficiency in the design and teaching of strength training and conditioning theory and technique. Knowledge and ability to teach speed, agility and flexibility training. Understanding of basic nutritional guidelines as they pertain to athletic performance. Ability to motivate both male and female intercollegiate athletes. Ability to identify strengths and deficiencies in student athletes' technical and physical execution and the ability to design individual workouts to address those issues to maximize performance. Ability to develop relationships and effective communication with sport coaches and others within an intercollegiate athletic department. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with college student athletes. Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills. Ability to interact with diverse groups. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Exercise Science or related field.
