Upon Hire SUMMARY The Head Custodian & Small Equipment Repair position is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, cleanliness, general maintenance, and safety of the school facility, as well as the maintenance and repair of small equipment. This role ensures that building systems and equipment function efficiently, and performs routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs. The position also manages supplies, supports building security, and maintains safe, clean, and well-functioning indoor and outdoor environments to support school operations.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Maintain a current first aid certification or obtain one upon employment. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for a distance of up to six (6) feet, and the ability to climb a ladder. Successful completion of Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint background checks. Employment eligibility verified through I-9 documentation. Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days of hire.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, management, and the public.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans, organizes, and accomplishes work as scheduled. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in time and not hinder custodial duties. Trains new employees in proper cleaning and maintenance. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. Shovels and de-ices walks, driveways, and steps as appropriate. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy hours. Raises the United States flag at the beginning of each school day. Sweeps and dusts classrooms. Cleans corridors daily after school and throughout the day as needed. Scrubs and disinfects toilets, floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains daily. Maintains all floors in a clean, attractive condition and in good repair. Cleans whiteboards. Performs minor building repairs. Immediately reports any damage to school property to the principal. Remains on the school premises during scheduled work hours and during non-school hours when building use has been authorized and custodial attendance is required by the principal. Assumes responsibility for opening the building each school day. When closing the building, ensures that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition. Is familiar with materials and equipment used in the care of the building. Maintains building security as outlined by the principal. Is familiar with building use procedures by outside groups. Washes windows in the area of responsibility. Ensures that building hallways and exits are free of obstruction while school is in session. Keeps the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on small equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor machines, and power tools) to ensure safe and efficient operation. Diagnoses equipment issues, troubleshoots malfunctions, and completes necessary repairs or coordinates service when needed. Performs other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Health and physical stamina to stand on feet for extended periods of time. Performs work at various heights and performs various types of physical labor for an eight (8) hour shift. Lifts and carries up to fifty (50) pounds for a distance of up to six (6) feet. Stands, walks, reaches, lifts, bends, kneels, stoops, climbs, pushes, pulls, and lifts. Stands or walks up to 95 percent of the workday. The position requires frequent squatting, bending, stooping, or twisting at the neck and trunk while performing essential job functions. Fine motor skills, including the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, and the ability to hear and speak with others. Climbs and carries ladders. Maintenance Director/Building AdministratorTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
As provided by PSE contract. Subject to the needs of the district Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
