Print Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by business school, at least one (1) year of college, and/or equivalent work experience. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification. Knowledge of office procedures and practices, including, but not limited to filing systems, office equipment, telephone etiquette, and letter and report writing. Knowledge of current technology and software applications, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel, office methods and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a variety of methods, procedures, and equipment commonly used in health care services. Knowledge of crisis management techniques; ability to react effectively in emergency situations; knowledge of community emergency medical resources. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms in both English and Spanish. Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and others contacted during the course of business.
Essential Functions:
Screens ill and injured students referred to the office and provides first aid and health-related services as needed. Prepares and maintains a variety of District health records, files, logs, and lists of children seen in the health care office. Assist with running monthly reports (Immunization compliance, dental, vision, hearing), including tracking missing immunizations and failed dental/vision screenings. Assist with IEP parent calls (Initials and Triennial), including translation for Spanish-speaking parents. Work with Student Information System technician to update health information tabs and drop-downs in SIS as needed to reflect changes in laws or requirements in immunizations and /or health records. Assist with organizing clinics (such as dental and vision), mass screenings, and trainings offered through the health office (such as CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed). Prepare work orders and facilities requests for clinics, screenings, and trainings. Prepares District health records for new enrollees; checks immunizations; updates health card records; records vision/hearing screening data. Assists with state-mandated annual screenings. Contacts parents/guardians about student illness or injuries; alerts district nurse and administrators to serious health issues. Inventories and orders health supplies for health offices; restocks daily supplies and prepares classroom first aid kits. Maintains health equipment. Communicates effectively with parents and guardians to provide or obtain information about student illness, injuries, medications, and immunizations. Maintains confidentiality of student records in accordance with District and legal requirements. Administers medication as instructed and maintains medication log. Performs catheterization and blood sugar testing as required. Monitors District compliance with student immunization requirements. Provides assistance to meet special health needs of identified students. Maintains current knowledge of skills and techniques related to position; attends training sessions, workshops and other in-service activities as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
