Job Summary The Healthcare Sustainability Officer Fellow plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health's mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities. The Healthcare Sustainability Officer Fellowship Program is designed to cultivate emerging leaders focused on advancing sustainability within healthcare systems. Fellows will gain hands-on experience working in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare networks to reduce environmental impact while supporting high-quality patient care. This program emphasizes practical solutions in areas such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable procurement, and regulatory compliance—helping healthcare organizations meet environmental goals without compromising safety or outcomes. Essential Job Duties Assist in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives across healthcare facilities Conduct environmental impact assessments (energy use, water consumption, waste streams, emissions) Support waste reduction programs, including recycling, composting, and regulated medical waste minimization Collaborate with clinical, facilities, and supply chain teams to promote sustainable practices Analyze data and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sustainability goals Research and recommend best practices in healthcare sustainability and environmental compliance Research various grant opportunities that support sustainability initiatives Contribute to sustainability reporting, including ESG disclosures and regulatory documentation Participate in staff education and engagement efforts to promote a culture of sustainability Support green building initiatives and certifications (e.g., LEED for healthcare facilities) Assist with managing current energy tracking programs such as the ASHE Energy to Care program and the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager program
Required Qualifications Education:
Master's degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field
Licensure/Certification:
None Experience:
Demonstrated experience in sustainability, environmental stewardship or ESG-related initiatives (employment, internship, academic research)
Driver's License:

Experience:
