Full Job Description Title:
Creative Arts Therapist (Art, Music & Drama) Role summary Provide therapeutic services using art, music, and drama-based interventions to support emotional, cognitive, social, and functional goals for individuals and groups across ages and settings. Key responsibilities Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized, measurable treatment plans using visual art, music, drama, role-play, movement, songwriting, improvisation, and related modalities. Facilitate individual and group sessions that integrate art, music, and drama techniques to address mental health, developmental, rehabilitative, educational, or palliative needs. Monitor and document client progress, maintain clinical records, and evaluate outcomes; revise interventions as needed. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., psychologists, social workers, educators, medical staff) and participate in case conferences. Provide crisis intervention, caregiver/family education, and referrals to additional services when appropriate. Maintain professional, ethical, and culturally responsive practice, including confidentiality and safety standards. Adapt materials and approaches for diverse abilities, developmental levels, and clinical populations. Qualifications Master's degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama/Expressive Arts Therapy, or related clinical field; OR a combination of relevant graduate training with documented competency across modalities.
Relevant credentialing:
ATR-BC, MT-BC, RDT/BC, or equivalent certifications (one or more preferred); willingness to pursue additional certification if required. Strong clinical assessment, treatment-planning, group-facilitation, and documentation skills. Proficiency in multiple creative modalities (visual media, instruments, voice, drama/role techniques, movement) and ability to adapt interventions. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, developmental stages, and culturally competent practice. Preferred experience Clinical experience in hospitals, schools, community mental health, rehabilitation, hospice, or private practice. Experience with diverse populations, neurologic or developmental conditions, and interdisciplinary care. Training in outcome measurement and specialized approaches (e.g., neurologic music therapy, trauma-informed expressive arts). Work environment & logistics Full-time or part-time; onsite, hybrid, or community-based settings; may include varied hours and travel between programs.
