In this vital role, you will design and implement engaging therapeutic activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being for diverse populations, including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, and those receiving hospice or mental health care. Your expertise will help enhance quality of life through innovative recreational therapies, fostering independence, resilience, and joy in every participant's journey. Responsibilities Develop and execute individualized and group recreational therapy plans utilizing techniques such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, equine experience, swimming, and other creative modalities. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to identify needs, preferences, and goals for therapy sessions. Facilitate therapeutic activities tailored to specific populations including seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, children with autism or developmental disabilities, and individuals coping with PTSD or addiction. Document progress through detailed medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including nurses, social workers, case managers, and medical professionals—to coordinate care plans effectively. Manage crisis situations with calmness and professionalism while implementing behavioral management strategies when necessary. Collect data on therapy outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and adjust approaches for optimal results. Requirements Proven experience in recreational therapy or related fields such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, or behavioral health. Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with medical documentation practices. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information. Experience working with individuals across various settings including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospice care, or community programs. Strong skills in patient assessment, case management, and group or individual counseling. Ability to engage participants through creative modalities like dancing, swimming, horseback riding (equine experience), yoga, or other therapeutic activities. Excellent crisis management skills combined with compassionate communication tailored to diverse populations including children and geriatrics. Nice-to-have skills include experience in dementia care, Alzheimer's care, special education settings, working with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), PTSD care, addiction counseling, hospice support, and familiarity with medical records systems.
