Job Description

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of injuries and medical conditions affecting student-athletes participating in Wallace State Community College athletic programs. The Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with coaches, team physicians, healthcare providers, and college personnel to promote the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes while supporting the mission and goals of the Athletics Department and the College. Provide athletic training services and sports medicine support for assigned intercollegiate athletic programs. Evaluate, treat, and manage athletic injuries and illnesses, including developing and implementing injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. Provide emergency care, first aid, and return-to-play recommendations in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers. Coordinate pre-participation physical examinations, medical clearances, referrals, and other healthcare services for student-athletes. Monitor student-athlete health and wellness and provide education on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, recovery, and wellness practices. Maintain accurate, confidential medical records and ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, privacy, and recordkeeping requirements. Assist in the development and implementation of emergency action plans and other student-athlete health and safety protocols. Provide athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and athletic events, including coordinating medical coverage and serving as a liaison with healthcare and emergency personnel. Maintain athletic training facilities, equipment, supplies, inventory, documentation, and assist with budget-related responsibilities. Collaborate with coaches, academic support staff, healthcare providers, and other college personnel to support student-athlete success and ensure compliance with NJCAA, ACCC, institutional, and applicable state and federal regulations. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, required, or directed by the College. The College reserves the right to assign additional tasks and to alter or reassign job duties as necessary to meet business and operational needs. In order to perform these essential functions, the Athletic Trainer must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential function. Bachelor's degree in athletic training, sports medicine, exercise science, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum of two (2) years of athletic training experience at the collegiate, secondary school, or professional level. Must possess a current certification from the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers. Must possess or be eligible to possess licensure as an Athletic Trainer through the State of Alabama. Must be certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid. Demonstrated experience working with multiple sports programs. Demonstrated experience with electronic medical record systems. Must be have knowledge of NJCAA athletic programs and regulations. Ability to work nonstandard hours, including evenings and occasional overnight travel, as needed. Valid driver's license is required.
