Full-Time Assistant Athletic Trainer The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the head athletic trainer and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the University's athletic program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University's athletics program. Learn more about what makes Washington and Lee University a great place to work and live at jobs.wlu.edu. Essential Functions Responsible for the prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses. Evaluates athletic injuries and determines appropriate courses of treatment and therapies to encourage recovery. Treats athletic injuries with various therapies including the use of electrical modalities, thermal modalities, hydrotherapy, and manual therapies. Provides education to student athletes including preventative education, injury education, and instruction in proper technique for rehabilitative exercises. Performs athletic training administrative duties. Assists with coordination, scheduling, and provision of medical coverage for home and away competitions. Documents and records student athlete injuries and treatment provided. Works with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes. Follows up on specified therapies. Additional related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization is required and a Master's degree is preferred. Must possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification as an Athletic Trainer, or be pending results of the BOC examination and have Virginia State Athletic Training Licensure or be eligible to attain licensure by time of hire. Must be certified as an Athletic Trainer by the BOC by start date. It is preferable that applicants have some familiarity with NCAA governing rules. Experience Campus Safety and Welfare Responsibilities:
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the Clery Act. This position is required to report Clery qualifying crimes to the Department of Public Safety and complete annual training about your reporting responsibilities under the law.
Physical Requirements:
Fingering:
Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Walking:
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Standing:
Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
Stooping:
Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Pushing:
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Pulling:
Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Lifting:
Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Working Conditions:
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
Types of Work:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
