Job Description

We're looking for a motivated Athletic Trainer to join our orthopedic team in a unique hybrid role that combines outpatient clinic care with athletic event coverage. In this position, you'll support physical therapy and rehabilitation services during clinic hours by assisting with patient treatments, therapeutic exercises, modalities, and education to help patients recover and return to activity safely. You'll also provide athletic training services for local schools and sporting events, including injury evaluation, first aid, taping/bracing, rehabilitation support, and return-to-play guidance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, values teamwork, and is passionate about helping athletes and patients stay active and healthy. The right candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with physicians, therapists, coaches, and families to deliver exceptional orthopedic and sports medicine care.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field required Current Athletic Trainer certification (BOC) required Current Minnesota Athletic Trainer licensure required CPR/BLS certification required Prior orthopedic, sports medicine, or outpatient rehab experience preferred Join a trusted, independent orthopedic practice committed to providing expert care to our patients and community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree with an emphasis in Athletic Training required. Master's degree preferred based in certification standards. Certification as an Athletic Trainer (BOC) is required Current Minnesota Athletic Trainer licensure required CPR/BLS certification; ACLS or first-responder certifications required Prior experience as an Athletic Trainer in an orthopedic/sports clinic is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of athletic training principles, orthopedic injuries, rehabilitation protocols, and sports medicine best practices. Knowledge of therapeutic exercise techniques, modalities, and patient safety practices. Knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, injury prevention, and return-to-play guidelines. Knowledge of infection control, documentation standards, and HIPAA requirements. Ability to assess athlete and patient needs and respond appropriately in both routine and emergent situations. Ability to build strong working relationships with patients, athletes, physicians, therapists, coaches, school staff, and families. Ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage multiple demands across clinic and outreach settings. Ability to work independently in outreach environments while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to adapt work schedule to meet clinic and athletic event coverage needs, including evenings and occasional weekends. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to educate and support diverse patient populations. Skilled in assisting with rehabilitation exercises, therapeutic modalities, and safe patient handling techniques. Skilled in injury evaluation, taping/bracing, emergency response, and rehabilitation progression. Skilled in documenting clearly and accurately in the electronic medical record. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday. Frequent lifting, transferring, and assisting patients and equipment up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting over 50 pounds with assistance. Frequent use of hands for treatment activities, taping, splinting, keyboarding, and documentation. Ability to demonstrate exercises, assist with mobility, and respond quickly in urgent situations. Ability to travel between clinic locations, schools, and athletic venues as assigned. Ability to work in indoor clinical settings and outdoor athletic environments in varying weather conditions.
Mental Demands:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and patient safety. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adjust to changing patient schedules and athletic coverage needs. Ability to make timely clinical decisions and respond effectively in emergency situations. Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by phone, and through written documentation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in all situations.
