McLeod Health is seeking a motivated Athletic Trainer Extern to provide sports medicine support within our Athletic Training Department. This PRN opportunity offers hands-on experience working alongside certified athletic trainers and healthcare professionals while assisting with injury prevention, rehabilitation, patient care, and athletic training operations. The Athletic Trainer Extern will work under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer or other qualified healthcare professional. This role is designed to provide valuable clinical experience while supporting the delivery of high-quality sports medicine services. Key Responsibilities Assist athletic trainers with physical examinations, injury evaluations, and patient care activities. Support medical documentation and daily operations of the athletic training facility. Assist in developing and implementing rehabilitation programs for injured patients. Participate in injury prevention and wellness initiatives. Assist with developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures. Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate professional conduct at all times. Provide support during practices, athletic competitions, and special events as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

PRN (As Needed) Flexible scheduling may include: Days Evenings Weekends Practices Athletic competitions

Qualifications:

Education High School Diploma or GED required. Current enrollment in an accredited Athletic Training or related Sports Medicine program required. Experience Previous athletic training clinical experience preferred.

License/Certification Requirement:

BLS (American Heart Association). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interest in athletic training, sports medicine, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Basic understanding of anatomy, injury assessment, emergency care, and therapeutic exercise. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, practices, and athletic competitions. Why McLeod Health?
