Job Description

2026-2027 School Year
OSD ATHLETIC TRAINER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement injury-prevention programs, and educate student-athletes, coaches, and families on health and wellness practices. Evaluate athletic injuries and illnesses and provide appropriate first aid, emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation services. Maintain accurate injury reports, treatment records, and other required documentation. Develop, review, and implement Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and assist with risk management initiatives. Coordinate concussion management, return to learn, and return to play protocols in accordance with district policy, WIAA regulations, and Washington State law. Assist with heat illness prevention, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, and other student-athlete safety initiatives. Communicate and collaborate with student athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, school nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with medical providers as appropriate. Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, contests, tournaments, and postseason events. Travel to athletic events as assigned by the Athletic Director. Maintain electronic medical records and prepare reports as requested. Participate in department meetings, district trainings, and professional development activities. Serve as an integral member of the athletic department and school community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physically able to lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Physically capable of demonstrating movements or plays to student athletes, when applicable or necessary. Physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, lift, reach, pull, and climb as required to satisfactorily perform required duties. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more. Frequent standing, walking, lifting and bending.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position follows the Othello High School athletic calendar/schedule Primarily works afternoons and evenings, with occasional weekends. Coverage required during Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons. Schedule will vary based on practices, competitions, tournaments, and postseason assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field Current Board of Certification (BOC) Athletic Trainer certification Current Washington State Athletic Trainer License, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Bilingual in English & Spanish preferred Must have a current First Aid/CPR card as per WIAA guidelines. Completed or will complete all WIAA trainings and requirements.
