Job Description

The Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic is expecting to take at least one 12 month extern beginning May/June 2027. The student will be based out of the Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic with possible opportunities to travel to the Cheyenne VA. As a health care system, we employ 10 Audiologists and 3 Audiology Health Technicians with locations in Cheyenne, WY and Loveland, CO. We provide comprehensive hearing evaluations including routine speech in noise testing, oto-acoustic emissions, ABR/ASSR, acoustic immittance, comprehensive vestibular evaluations, virtual Progressive Tinnitus Management classes, hearing aid fittings and follow ups, and assistive listening devices. We collaborate with Physical Therapy on evaluation and rehabilitation for balance disorders and with Mental Health for management of patients with bothersome tinnitus. Our health care system and our region within the VA System are very strong in the area of Tele-Audiology as well. We currently provide services at three additional outpatient clinics via Clinical Video Telehealth in Sterling, CO, Sidney, NE and Rawlins, WY including comprehensive hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings/assistive listening devices and hearing aid follow ups. We also provide hearing aid follow ups into the home with via remote programming.

2.5 weeks Continuing education opportunities? Yes During the course of the externship year, students would participate in multiple onsite/virtual manufacturer trainings, be allowed to attend 2 offsite manufacturer trainings, given the opportunity to attend JDVAC, and participate in monthly journal club within the audiology department.

May/June 2027 Expected hours/days a week: 40 hours/5 days Travel to satellite centers required? No Students will be based out of the Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic, but travel to the Cheyenne VA may considered for additional clinical experiences.
