Job Description

Michigan Medicine (The University of Michigan Health System), Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking applicants for an audiology externship for the 2027-2028 term. This is a 12-month, 4-day per week, rotation based externship beginning on or around June 1, 2027. Michigan Medicine is a large, regional medical center serving patients and families from across the state of Michigan. Our department is comprised of 42 physicians (including 5 otologists), 3 physician assistants, 12 speech pathologists, and 5 locations providing audiology services with 30 audiologists on staff. Externs will rotate through facilities within a 10 mile radius of the main medical campus. Externs at Michigan Medicine will gain extensive clinical experience in a wide variety of audiologic services including behavioral and electrophysiological diagnostic hearing evaluations of infants, children, and adults; hearing aid services (pediatric and adult); cochlear implant candidacy evaluations and post-operative management (pediatric and adult); vestibular evaluation and therapy (pediatric and adult); intraoperative monitoring; bone anchored hearing systems (pediatric and adult); tinnitus management; interdisciplinary evaluation of children with multiple disabilities and unique medical conditions; educational audiology outreach; and ototoxic monitoring. We are seeking applicants who demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and are motivated to provide exceptional audiology care to patients and families. The audiology extern candidate must be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology program and must have met all requirements for graduation with the exception of the Externship year. Extern applicants should demonstrate the ability to work within a fast-paced setting, have a strong work ethic, and have high professional standards and ethics. The Michigan Medicine Audiology Externship program is voluntarily adhering to the Audiology Clinical Education Network (ACEN) standardized timeline for externship application/interviews and therefore our deadline is September 16, 2026.
