Job Description

Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences offers a one-year Audiology Externship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota. This program provides in-depth clinical knowledge and skills that enable you to provide high-quality, comprehensive audiology care. Education focuses on providing patient care and state-of-the-art clinical audiology services to patients of all ages. During your training, you have the opportunity to rotate through each clinical specialty area within the Division of Audiology, including: Pediatric and adult audiological evaluations Posturography Videonystagmography Rotational chair testing Canalith repositioning procedures Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials Auditory evoked potentials Otoacoustic emissions Hearing aid selection, fitting, and dispensing Adult aural rehabilitation programs Cochlear implant evaluation and programming Newborn hearing screening Tinnitus counseling Equipment calibration Opportunity for clinical research Opportunity for quality improvement projects Opportunity for local presentations within the department of Otorhinolaryngology Opportunity to present at a national audiology conference To be eligible to apply for the Audiology Externship, applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology program. Candidates must have completed the didactic portion of the degree before being admitted to the externship. In addition, applicants must obtain a Minnesota doctoral externship temporary audiology license.

Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: Externs should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill to perform the basic test battery for behavioral hearing evaluations on normal developing adults and children. Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: Externs will be able to demonstrate independence in performing diagnostic hearing evaluations, vestibular evaluations, hearing aid programming and verification, cochlear implant evaluation and mapping.
