Job Description

WVU Medicine is the state's largest health system and largest private employer. Our mission is to improve the health of West Virginians and all we serve through excellence in patient care, research, and education. The WVU Medicine Audiology Department is comprised of eight full-time audiologists. The extern will primarily be in the main medical center location where they will be exposed to experiences within all the audiology specialty areas for both adults and pediatrics. The position is a 12-month, 5-day per week audiology student externship beginning around May 2027. Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: Basic comprehensive audiometric evaluation and basic hearing aid programming/repair skills. Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
  • Audiologic evaluations (Both adult and pediatric) (Everyday)
  • Immittance measures (Everyday)
  • Otoacoustic emissions (Regularly)
  • Hearing aid evaluations (All manufacturers) (Regularly)
  • Hearing aid fittings (Verfit 2) (Regularly)
  • Hearing aid repairs (Regularly)
  • Assistive listening device evaluation and fittings (Regularly)
  • Cochlear implant evaluations (All 3 manufacturers) (Regularly)
  • Cochlear implant programming (Regularly)
  • Baha evaluations (Regularly)
  • Baha fittings/programming (Regularly)
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing (Awake, Sleep Deprived, and Sedated in the OR) (Regularly)
  • Vestibular evaluations (VNG) (Regularly)
  • Treatment of BPPV (Epley Maneuver) (Regularly)
  • Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP) Testing (

  • Electrocochleography (ECochG) Testing (
