Position Overview:
The K-12
Instructional Strategist II:
BD/LD provides specialized instruction and behavioral support for students with Behavioral Disorders (BD) and Learning Disabilities (LD) across grades K-12. This position focuses on developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), supporting students with significant behavioral and academic needs, and collaborating with staff and families to ensure student success in inclusive and specialized settings while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct, research-based instruction tailored to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with BD/LD.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Support implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) and de-escalation strategies.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to implement accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress; adjust instruction and interventions based on data.
  • Perform and maintain ongoing progress monitoring aligned to IEP goals, ensuring data is accurate and up to date.
  • Collect, analyze, and use behavioral and academic data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Support crisis intervention and ensure safe, structured learning environments.
  • Utilize appropriate assessment tools for academic and behavioral evaluation.
  • Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and needs.
  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports in compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Supervise paraprofessionals and support staff as assigned.
  • Ensure fidelity of IEP implementation, including services, accommodations, and behavior plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP and evaluation meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Valid State of Iowa teaching license required.
  • K-12
Instructional Strategist II:
Behavior Disorders/Learning Disabilities (BD/LD) endorsement required.
  • Experience working with students with significant behavioral and academic needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior management strategies, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Candidate must complete both written and physical components of Nonviolent Crisis Prevention (CPI) training provided by the school upon hire.
