Yesterday Job Description Position Summary The Behavior Analyst provides student-centered and systems-level behavioral expertise informed by applied behavior analysis (ABA), trauma-informed practice, and equity-centered decision-making. This role supports students with complex needs, partners with families, consults with staff, and strengthens school-wide behavior systems through proactive planning and data-informed interventions. The position works in close collaboration with the administration and the Lead Behavior Interventionist. Trauma-Informed Behavioral Intervention Work collaboratively to design, implement, and monitor behavior intervention plans (BIPs) informed by ABA, trauma-informed care, and neurodiversity-affirming practices Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) that consider trauma history, environmental stressors, and skill deficits Provide direct intervention and crisis support for students with complex behavioral needs on a case-by-case basis Support regulation, recovery, and reintegration following major behavioral incidents Consultation & Collaborative Problem-Solving Serve as a behavioral and trauma-informed consultant to teachers, special education teams, administrators, and support staff Maintain a system for requests for specific classroom support Participate in IEP meetings, re-entry meetings, and problem-solving teams as requested Collaborate with the Lead Behavior Interventionist to analyze trends, support intervention fidelity, and align individual plans with building-wide systems Provide modeling, feedback, and guidance to behavioral intervention team staff Family & Caregiver Partnership Build trust-based relationships with parents and caregivers, particularly in complex or high-emotion situations Assist administration with difficult parent conversations related to behavior, discipline, and education Translate behavioral data and plans into accessible, family-friendly language Staff Support & Capacity-Building Offer coaching and modeling for staff navigating challenging behaviors Create practical tools (visuals, scripts, checklists, decision trees) to support implementation Provide targeted training on behavior data collection, antecedent strategies, and replacement skill instruction Recognize signs of secondary trauma and burnout; offer strategies to reduce emotional overload and compassion fatigue Serve as an in-house resource for behavioral decision-making Systems Development & Program Design Support development and refinement of trauma-informed behavior procedures, crisis response protocols, and regulation/reintegration systems Assist leadership with the implementation of new policies or practices related to student behavior Assist administration in aligning behavior practices with IDEA requirements and trauma-informed frameworks Identify gaps in current systems and propose evidence-based solutions IEP & Compliance Support Ensure behavior supports align with IDEA requirements and IEP documentation standards Support IEP teams with measurable goals, data-based decision-making, and behavior-related accommodations Data, Documentation & Continuous Improvement Create data collection protocols and train staff on consistent methods Analyze and interpret behavioral data to inform interventions and systems-level decisions Monitor the effectiveness of behavior plans and recommend adjustments Use data to proactively identify students and systems in need of additional support Professional Development & Training Help identify training needs related to trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, behavior data collection, and equity-centered support Assist in developing or facilitating targeted staff trainings and small-group learning opportunities Support individualized staff growth through modeling, coaching, and resource-sharing Other Duties Participate in school culture projects as assigned by the administration Assist with piloting and refining new initiatives related to behavior, climate, and support systems Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Required:
Master's degree in ABA, education, psychology, or related field Appropriate licensure and endorsement from the Iowa Department of Public Health and Iowa Board of Educational Examiners Minimum 2 years of experience working with students with disabilities Strong understanding of behavior management principles, positive behavior support strategies, and evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, educators, and external stakeholders Strong data analysis and documentation abilities Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations Commitment to positive and respectful interaction with students with disabilities
Preferred:
Experience developing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with complex behavioral needs Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification Training in trauma-informed practices and/or Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI)
