Job Description

Position Summary:
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides compassionate, direct care and support to individuals undergoing treatment for substance use disorders and/or mental health conditions. The BHT ensures a safe, therapeutic environment while assisting the clinical team in implementing treatment plans, supporting recovery goals, and addressing the needs of patients in detox, facility-based crisis, and inpatient residential programs. Candidates must complete the ICGH behavioral health technician training program with satisfactory completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Support ? Build positive, supportive relationships with patients to foster trust and engagement in treatment. ? Assist with daily living activities, including meals, hygiene, and transportation, as needed. ? Facilitate and encourage participation in therapeutic activities, including group sessions and individual counseling. Crisis Intervention and Safety ? Monitor patients for signs of distress, agitation, or crisis and intervene following established protocols. ? De-escalate conflicts or behavioral challenges using trauma-informed and person-centered techniques. ? Conduct safety checks and ensure the facility is free of hazards or contraband. Collaboration and Communication ? Work closely with nurses, therapists, and other team members to provide holistic care. ? Communicate observations about patient behavior, progress, and concerns to the clinical team during shift handovers and team meetings. ? Assist in updating treatment plans and documentation of patient interactions as needed. Education and Advocacy ? Provide basic education on recovery and wellness topics to patients under the direction of the clinical team. ? Advocate for patient needs and ensure a supportive environment that respects individual dignity and autonomy. Facility Operations ? Maintain cleanliness and order in common areas, patient rooms, and shared spaces. ? Support the preparation and coordination of therapeutic programming and recreational activities. ? Assist in monitoring medication compliance under the supervision of licensed staff.
Qualifications:

Education:
? High School Diploma or equivalent required. ? Completion of Behavioral Health or equivalent technician training is preferred. ? Peer support specialist training is preferred, but not required. ?
Experience:
? Experience in a behavioral health, substance use treatment, or related setting is preferred. ?
Skills and Abilities:
? Strong interpersonal and communication skills. ? Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure or crisis situations. ? Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care. ? Basic understanding of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery principles. ?
Certifications:
? Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred. ? CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar training is a plus.
