CLASS DESCRIPTIONA
school-based Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) focuses on using Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) to help students with behavioral, developmental, or social challenges succeed in an educationalsetting. Unlike clinical roles, this position is embedded in the school system, requiring heavycollaboration with teachers and administrators to integrate interventions into classroom routines.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES and
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Adheres to the policies and related directives of the East Providence School Department.2. Promotes the attainment of the Districts Mission Vision and Strategic Plan.3. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) to identify the purpose behind challengingbehaviors and evaluate students' skill deficits.4. Develop and oversee individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and skill acquisitionprograms that align with a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).5. Provide ongoing professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals on ABAprinciples, classroom management, and specific plan implementation.6. Design data collection systems to monitor student progress, analyze trends, and adjustinterventions based on measurable results.7. Actively participate in IEP meetings and consult with parents, psychologists, and speechtherapists to ensure a cohesive support system.8. Oversee and mentor Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) or BCBA candidates to ensuretreatment fidelity.9. Applies current research-based best instructional practices and strategies of ABA10. Adheres to special education policies, completes relevant paperwork, presents assessment dataand attends and actively contributes to special education meetings.11. Maintains accurate student records as a result of the monitoring12. Communicates regularly with students and parents regarding student behavioral and socialemotional functioning; communicates immediately with both when there are concerns.13. Thorough knowledge of federal and state special education laws governing children withdisabilities.14. Consults and collaborates regularly and professionally with colleagues, students and parentsregarding student academic, behavioral and social emotional functioning.15. Takes responsibility for personal professional growth.16. Participates in school events and in school and/or professional development17. Oversee and monitor students receiving ABA in a clinical setting18. Other duties as assigned by Building Principal or Director and/or Assistant Director of
PPS.KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of ABA-based assessments (e.g., VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R) and evidence-basedmethodologies. Ability to translate complex clinical data into actionable strategies for non-clinical school staff. Familiarity with special education laws, including IDEA and FERPA. Ability to work in high-stress environments and adjust interventions to fit diverse classroomsettings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Current BCBA certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board(BACB).
Education:
A Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or arelated field. Valid state license to practice behavior analysis, where required by local law. Typically at least two years of practical experience in ABA, preferably within a school orpediatric setting. Must possess a high degree of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality. Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills. Must be proficient with computers.
