Principal Position Overview:
The ABA Therapist is responsible for implementing evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy interventions to support students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delays, and behavioral challenges. The therapist will work collaboratively with special education staff, general educators, school psychologists, and families to develop and execute individualized behavior plans and promote positive learning outcomes. This position is essential in fostering inclusive educational environments across the three schools while ensuring students receive the behavioral support necessary for academic and personal success.Key Responsibilities:
Implement individualized ABA therapy plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), utilizing techniques such as discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment teaching (NET), task analysis, and functional communication training (FCT). Collect detailed behavioral data during each session; maintain accurate, daily records and progress notes. Analyze trends and collaborate with the BCBA to make necessary adjustments to behavior intervention plans (BIPs). Assist students in developing adaptive, social, communication, and academic skills in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Apply proactive strategies to prevent behavioral crisis. Respond to challenging behaviors using approved de-escalation techniques and safety protocols in line with school and district policy. Participate in IEP meetings, team planning sessions, and parent conferences. Provide consistent communication and progress updates to instructional teams, administrators, and parents/guardians. Support the classroom teacher in structuring learning environments that encourage positive behaviors and minimize distractions or triggers. Participate in ongoing professional development related to ABA therapy, behavior management, trauma-informed care, and inclusive education practices. Adhere to HIPAA, FERPA, and school district confidentiality guidelines. Ensure all documentation complies with federal, state, and district special education standards.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification Minimum of 1 year experience working with children with developmental disabilities or behavioral needsPreferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Behavioral Science, or related field Experience working in a school-based setting CPR and First Aid Certification Knowledge of functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and positive behavior intervention strategiesSkills & Abilities:
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Patience, empathy, and a deep commitment to student well-being Strong analytical and observational abilities Ability to follow detailed instructions and remain consistent with behavior plans Skilled in maintaining composure in high-stress or crisis situations Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Technologically proficient in using data tracking software, email, and school information systems Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.
