Job Description

Position Summary Perform routine and complex tasks associated with installation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of clinical equipment and integrated systems across ECU Health. Eligible to be assigned corrective and preventive maintenance on life-support equipment. Works with limited supervision. Responsibilities Independently perform PMs and corrective maintenance on a broad range of devices, including life-support equipment. Serve as a resource to clinical staff for proper device operation and routine maintenance. Identify/recommend replacement for obsolete or high-risk equipment; assist with evaluations. Prioritize assignments to meet departmental goals; may carry on-call per policy. Mentor BMET I technicians; coordinate routine projects from start to completion with equipment owners. Participate in device incident investigations and provide follow-up per policy. Independently perform diagnostics, repairs, PMs, and safety testing on assigned devices. Maintain audit-ready documentation in CMMS and other systems. Collaborate with clinical and IT teams to restore service and ensure connectivity.
Examples of devices:
defibrillators, incubators/transport incubators, patient monitoring systems, EEG/EMG devices, ventilators.
Minimum Requirements Required Qualifications Education:
Associate degree in Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, similar field or military equivalent (two-year vocational training may substitute).
Experience:
Minimum 2 years as a Biomedical Equipment Technician or 1 year experience and a
CBET/CLES
certification.
Licensure/Certifications:
Valid North Carolina driver¿s license; qualify as a candidate for CBET or CLES (AAMI). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Strong technical and clinical troubleshooting; substantial knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medical terminology. Proficiency with departmental software (email, CMMS/database, spreadsheets, word processing). IT Networking (Intermediate): Working knowledge of
TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS
; ability to troubleshoot device-to-network communication (ping, traceroute, link/port checks); integrate devices into appropriate VLANs; enforce ECU Health network segmentation standards. Data Integrity& Compliance (Intermediate): Ensure accuracy and completeness of service records, calibration logs, and configuration data; adhere to
HIPAA, ECU
Health cybersecurity standards, and data governance for connected medical devices. Pay Range $25.92 - $37.78 Other Information Positions working location in at the Outer Banks Hospital. The 21-bed facility is designed to meet the needs of the coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 350,000 in the summer season.
