Job Description To set up, troubleshoot and operate several pieces of equipment during open heart surgery. To collect blood samples and perform blood gas analysis and ACT tests. To assist the perfusionist, monitor the patient during bypass and maintain a cart of emergency supplies that might be needed during a bypass run. 1. Operates various intraoperative devices including Hemodynamic monitoring, cell salvage device, intra aortic balloon pump and Hepcon. 2. Performs intraoperative lab tests including blood gas analysis, activated clotting times and Hepcon analysis. 3. Performs quality control testing of equipment. 4. Sets up all case specific equipment needed for that days surgery. 5. Collects patient information for the following days cases and creates the pump record for each case. 6. Restocks perfusion case carts, making sure that all supplies are on the cart and that they are not expired. Retrieves needed supplies and products during the case. 7. Transports patients. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
