Location:
Gardendale Clinic Under close supervision and guidance, to demonstrate proficiency commensurate with basic technical skills. To perform routine and emergency echocardiograms including, but not limited to, 2D, 3D, Doppler, myocardial mechanics, and ultrasound enhancing agents. To proficiently operate diagnostic ultrasound and ancillary equipment. To thoroughly complete appropriate documentation. To provide echocardiography services at all locations and schedules as needed to meet patient care needs. Key Duties & Responsibilities 1. Performs basic cardiac ultrasound procedures for adult patient population (2D, 3D, Doppler, myocardial mechanics, and ultrasound enhancing agents) utilizing a variety of diagnostic equipment and techniques. Makes the necessary measurements to obtain accurate, high quality results required for interpretation. Appropriately identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities. Seeks to thoroughly understand the purpose of the examination and scrutinize the clinical question(s) to be answered. Escalates concerns/questions to technical resources and/or leads as appropriate. Extends the scope of the examination, deviating from standard techniques as appropriate. Correlates invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function. Proficiently operates diagnostic and ancillary equipment including PACS and offline analysis systems. 2. Prepares patient for procedure, assumes responsibility for safety as well as physical and psychological comfort. Obtains pertinent lab data and patient's clinical history, including cardiac related findings. Properly adapts imaging technique(s) used. Positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum diagnostic results. Views, records and analyzes images. Images subject to review as to whether satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. 3. Provides echocardiography services at all locations and schedules (variable shifts/weekends/emergent call coverage) as needed. 4. Prepares preliminary echocardiographic reporting on all studies for review and interpretation as required. 5. Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the echocardiography lab and equipment. Performs daily cleaning of all ultrasound equipment. Reports all equipment malfunctions as appropriate. 6. Maintains knowledge of proper infection control principles and precautionary procedures, Promotes continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices. 7. Participates in quality improvement activities as assigned. 8. Position Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular ultrasound training program preferred. Proof of eligibility to test for RDCS or RCS certification required for new graduates of a sonography program. Licenses / Certifications /
Registrations:
ARDMS or CCI certification in Echocardiography must be obtained within twelve (12) months from date of hire to position. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association (AHA) required. All candidates must successfully complete ultrasound scanning of the heart, subject to approval by the Echo Quality Panel, as part of the interview process.
