Position Summary The Cardiac Sonographer I performs diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in the evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This role is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining ultrasound equipment, and supporting the daily operations of the echocardiography lab. You'll perform a variety of cardiac imaging studies while collaborating closely with cardiologists to provide accurate diagnostic information and exceptional patient care. What You'll Do Perform comprehensive diagnostic echocardiographic examinations for patients of all ages.
Perform:
Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE) Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) Stress Echocardiograms Utilize advanced cardiac imaging techniques, including: M-Mode Two-Dimensional Imaging (2D) Doppler Color Doppler Evaluate cardiac anatomy and physiology while recognizing normal and abnormal findings. Obtain complete patient histories and clinical information to ensure appropriate imaging protocols. Generate preliminary measurements and quantitative analysis for physician interpretation. Acquire, store, and manage digital echocardiographic images within the imaging system. Collaborate closely with cardiologists to ensure optimal image quality and accurate diagnostic results. Recognize and promptly communicate critical findings, including: Aortic Dissection Cardiac Tamponade Endocarditis Pulmonary Hypertension Other life-threatening cardiac abnormalities Monitor patient safety, comfort, and wellbeing throughout each examination. Assist with daily echocardiography lab operations, equipment maintenance, and quality improvement initiatives. Maintain compliance with ICAEL accreditation standards and departmental policies. Report equipment issues and assist in maintaining a safe, organized clinical environment. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential: RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) or RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) New graduates must obtain registry certification within 6 months of hire Preferred Associate degree Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Cardiovascular Technology or Cardiac Sonography Program One (1) year of echocardiography experience Preferred Skills Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology Excellent patient assessment and communication skills Ability to recognize abnormal cardiac findings and exercise sound clinical judgment Experience with digital imaging systems and echocardiography reporting software Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary cardiovascular team Why Novant Health?
