  • 6:30 PM Job Description Facility is seeking an experienced Cardiac Sonographer (Adult Echocardiography) to join its premier inpatient cardiovascular team.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience performing high-quality adult transthoracic echocardiograms in an acute care hospital setting while adhering to American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) guidelines. This role requires independent performance of inpatient echocardiographic studies, recognition of abnormal findings, prompt communication of critical results, and collaboration with cardiologists and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive adult transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in an inpatient acute care setting. Prepare and educate patients regarding ultrasound procedures while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Review physician orders, prior imaging, patient history, and clinical documentation before examinations. Acquire high-quality diagnostic images following ASE and IAC standards. Perform detailed cardiac measurements, Doppler studies, valvular assessments, and ventricular function evaluations. Demonstrate proficiency with spectral Doppler, color Doppler, continuous-wave Doppler, pulse-wave Doppler, and Pedoff transducer techniques. Perform contrast-enhanced echocardiography and agitated saline (bubble) studies as clinically indicated. Identify critical or abnormal findings and communicate results promptly to interpreting physicians. Ensure complete and accurate documentation of studies within the electronic medical record. Maintain ultrasound equipment, supplies, quality assurance records, and department inventory. Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital regulatory standards. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Registered Cardiac Diagnostic Medical Sonographer through: ARDMS (RDCS) OR CCI (RCS) Current BLS Certification (AHA) . Minimum 200 documented inpatient echocardiography cases verified by institutional referral. Several years of dedicated adult inpatient echocardiography experience in an acute care hospital. Ability to independently perform complete adult echocardiographic examinations.
Strong knowledge of:
Adult cardiac anatomy and physiology Cardiac pathology Valvular assessment Spectral Doppler Pedoff Doppler Contrast echocardiography Agitated saline studies Ability to recognize critical cardiac abnormalities and appropriately escalate urgent findings. Preferred Qualifications Graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Cardiovascular Technology Program.
Experience performing:
Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) Stress Echocardiography 3D Echocardiography Experience supporting structural heart procedures, including: TAVR MitraClip Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Closure device protocols Experience maintaining ICAEL-accredited echocardiography laboratory standards.

Guideline Compliance Spectral & Color Doppler Imaging Pedoff Doppler Valvular Assessment Left Ventricular Function Assessment Contrast Echocardiography Bubble (Agitated Saline) Studies Critical Finding Recognition Electronic Medical Record Documentation Patient Education & Communication Equipment Operation & Quality Assurance Team Collaboration Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate has several years of dedicated inpatient adult echocardiography experience , with echocardiography serving as their primary specialty—not a combination of multiple ultrasound modalities (e.g., vascular, OB/GYN, abdominal). Candidates must be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced acute care hospital, performing high-quality cardiac imaging on critically ill patients, and promptly recognizing and communicating significant findings.
Note:
Candidates whose experience is primarily outpatient, physician office-based, or satellite imaging center focused will not be considered. Strong hands-on inpatient echocardiography experience is required.
