Your expertise in echocardiography will help clinicians diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions effectively. As an Echocardiography Sonographer, you'll be at the front line of cardiovascular health in primary care. You'll perform comprehensive cardiac ultrasound exams for patients with complex cardiac and metabolic comorbidities—many managing diabetes, COPD, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Your scans directly inform treatment decisions and help providers identify subclinical cardiac disease before it becomes critical. Duties Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiography including 2D, M-mode, spectral/color Doppler assessment of cardiac structure and function- Master multi-comorbidity cardiac assessment — You'll scan patients with diabetes, COPD, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Texas data shows these patients often have overlapping cardiovascular risk, particularly those with COPD who carry high rates of cardiac dysfunction and heart failure[1][2]
- Optimize imaging protocols for technically challenging cases: COPD patients with emphysematous lungs and poor acoustic windows, diabetic patients with concentric hypertrophy, and complex valvular disease
- Assess left ventricular function in COPD exacerbation—a critical diagnostic gap in emergency and primary care settings where echocardiography provides crucial clinical data[3]
- Operate portable and state-of-the-art cardiac ultrasound systems in a primary care setting
- Upload images securely to
EHR/PACS
for seamless provider review and consultation- Communicate clinical findings directly with providers and coordinate care recommendations
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and meticulous technical/clinical documentation
- Work efficiently in a per-scan compensation model that rewards both productivity and diagnostic quality
Requirements Required:
ARDMS RDCS
(Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) or RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) certification- Current BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of echocardiography experience (hospital, clinic, or mobile experience preferred)
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Strong technical proficiency with cardiac physiology and pathology
- Excellent patient communication and empathy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinical teams
Preferred:
- Experience in primary care, urgent care, or community health ultrasound settings
- Familiarity with portable and cart-based echo platforms (GE, Philips, Sonosite)
- Experience with challenging acoustic windows and optimization techniques
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid echo documentation standards
- Background in point-of-care echocardiography (POCUS) or emergency cardiac ultrasound
Compensation & Structure Per-Scan Model:
$25 per scan This is a high-volume, high-value opportunity with strong earning potential:- Conservative estimate (4-5 exams/8-hour shift): $100
- 125 per day
- Typical estimate (5-7 exams/8-hour shift): $125
- 175 per day
- Peak productivity (7-10 exams/8-hour shift): $175
- 250 per day
