Full Job Description Job Summary Job Title:
Cardiovascular Technologist — Office-Based Interventional Radiology (IR)
Position Summary:
Provide procedural and diagnostic support in an office-based interventional radiology practice. Responsibilities include patient preparation and monitoring, imaging acquisition (within scope of licensing), sterile technique, contrast management, device/equipment setup and troubleshooting, documentation, and assisting the interventional radiologist with procedures performed in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities Assist with common office-based IR procedures: angiography, angioplasty/stenting of peripheral vessels, embolization, dialysis access procedures, venous interventions, biopsies, and image-guided procedures. Prepare and maintain the procedure room: sterile field setup, trays/instrument preparation, contrast injectors, ultrasound and portable fluoroscopy systems, and procedure-specific disposables and devices.
Perform pre-procedure patient assessments:
verify identity, review history and labs (coagulation, renal function), check allergies, confirm informed consent, establish IV access, and verify pre-procedure instructions. Monitor and document patient vital signs and hemodynamics during procedures; recognize and respond to adverse events; assist with emergency protocols as needed. Administer and manage contrast agents under physician direction and within scope of licensing; monitor contrast doses and renal safety precautions; document usage. Maintain strict sterile technique and radiation safety (lead shielding, ALARA procedures); use appropriate PPE.
Provide direct patient care:
positioning, local anesthesia assistance, post-procedure compression/dressing, recovery monitoring, discharge instructions and follow-up scheduling. Perform routine equipment checks, basic troubleshooting, inventory control, and coordinate repairs or device returns. Accurately document procedures, device and implant usage, complications, and billing/charge capture in the EMR and procedure logs. Participate in quality improvement, infection control, radiation safety programs, and staff training. Required Qualifications Associate degree or certificate in cardiovascular technology, radiologic technologist, or allied health field.
Relevant credential preferred:
RCIS Current BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred or required depending on practice policy. Minimum 1-2 years of hands-on experience in interventional/cath lab/IR; strong candidates with ambulatory procedural experience considered. Preferred Skills and Abilities Knowledge of vascular anatomy, endovascular devices, sterile technique, and ambulatory IR workflows. Strong patient communication and bedside manner appropriate for outpatient population. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office environment, maintain meticulous documentation, and manage inventory/sterile stock. Comfortable with radiation safety procedures and ambulatory emergency response protocols. $35.00 - $43.00 per hour
