JOB SUMMARY
The Echocardiography Technologist performs high-quality echocardiographic studies and other non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures to support the evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular conditions. This position is responsible for acquiring and documenting diagnostic images, assisting with specialized cardiac procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring accurate reporting and communication of examination results. Advances clinical knowledge and technical expertise to obtain diagnostic-quality studies in accordance with established standards, physician protocols, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent provides preliminary technical findings, collaborates with cardiologists regarding non-standard examinations, and contributes to exceptional patient care through effective communication, education, and service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs high-quality echocardiograms and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and established quality standards. Produces and documents diagnostic-quality cardiac ultrasound images, including Doppler, Color Doppler, Stress Echocardiography, Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, and Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff during specialized cardiac procedures and communicates significant findings to facilitate timely patient care. Accurately documents patient information, study results, and charges within the electronic health record while ensuring timely completion of reports and required processing. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to obtain comprehensive studies that support accurate clinical diagnosis. Assesses and responds to the age-specific physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of patients while providing compassionate, patient-centered care. Educates patients and families regarding procedures and promotes a positive patient experience through excellent communication and customer service. Maintains proficiency in all procedures performed within the Cardiology Department and participates in ongoing professional development. Ensures equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, disinfected, and operating effectively; identifies and reports equipment issues as needed. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and supports efficient department operations, scheduling, and workflow. Participates in assigned on-call coverage and responds in accordance with departmental expectations. Actively supports quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, and organizational goals. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all applicable policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and corporate compliance expectations. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Licensure/Credentialing Credentialing by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) preferred at time of hire, or registry must be complete within one year. Certifications required See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy. Experience One year experience in Ultrasound imaging preferred. Pediatric cardiovascular experience preferred.
