Job Summary of Position:
MedStar Health is seeking a Referral Coordinator at MedStar Franklin Square Hospital to serve as a vital link between patients, providers, specialists, and insurance carriers, ensuring timely access to the care patients need. In this role, you'll coordinate specialty referrals, obtain insurance authorizations, schedule appointments and testing, and provide exceptional support throughout the referral process. Your attention to detail and commitment to patient service will help create a seamless healthcare experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate referrals from primary care providers to specialists and ancillary services.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations and ensure referral requirements are met.
  • Schedule appointments, tests, and follow-up visits while keeping patients informed every step of the way.
  • Track referrals, maintain accurate records, and monitor outstanding requests.
  • Assist with patient outreach, missed appointments, and urgent care coordination.
  • Provide excellent customer service while supporting patients, providers, and care teams.
Minimal Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, ambulatory care, referrals, billing, or related healthcare administrative role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance authorizations, and referral processes.
  • Experience with electronic health records, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
This position has a hiring range of USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
