Job Description:
Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to clinical documentation. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards. Utilizes clinical knowledge to assess the accuracy of diagnosis and procedure codes. Provides ongoing education and training to staff on documentation practices. Analyzes data to support clinical documentation improvement efforts. Communicates effectively with healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation regulations. Reviews medical records to ensure accurate and complete clinical documentation. Identifies documentation improvement opportunities and provides feedback to healthcare providers. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation. Educates the patient care team on documentation guidelines and best practices. Monitors and tracks documentation trends to identify areas for improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient in and demonstrates excellent physician relations. [Required]
  • Able to organize and present information clearly and concisely; excellent computer and keyboarding skills; ability to use multiple software programs simultaneously; high degree of prioritization skills. [Required]
  • Ability to learn/develop and fine-tune the skills necessary to perform optimally as a Clinical Documentation Specialist. [Required]
  • Dependable, self-motivated and pleasant. [Required]
  • Utilize and demonstrate excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving and deductive-reasoning skills. [Required]
  • Advanced knowledge of pathophysiology, disease processes and treatments. [Required]
  • Strong ability to organize/triage work and manage multiple priorities at once. [Required]
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation requirements that identify clinical conditions or procedures [Required]
  • Knowledge of specific AdventHealth computer-based programs (such as Retrospect, Iodine, and EPIC) [Preferred]
  • Familiarity with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Programs [Preferred]
  • Ability to read, interpret, and strategize future projects, bringing future state to reality [Preferred]
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation requirements that identify clinical conditions or procedures. [Preferred]
  • Coding background. [Preferred]
  • Knowledge of quality guidelines and regulatory guidelines.

  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Required]
  • Master's of Nursing [Preferred]
Field of Study:
  • Nursing degree (RN, BS, BSN, or advanced degree) Current active State license as a Registered Nurse
  • BSN
  • in Nursing or related health care related field
  • Coding background
Work Experience:
  • 3+ years of clinical documentation specialist experience [Required]
  • 5+ years of acute clinical experience [Required]
  • Experience educating in a healthcare or Clinical Documentation Improvement setting [Preferred]
  • Experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement and Acute Care [Required]
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) [Required]
