Healthcare Data Analyst - Intermediate Level Turn complex healthcare information into insights that improve public health across Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is seeking a skilled Healthcare Data Analyst to support the PA-WISE Healthy Hearts and Pennsylvania Violent Death Reporting System programs through data analysis, coding, quality assurance, visualization, and reporting.

Intermediate-Level Opportunity This position is ideal for an analyst who can independently complete routine data assignments while collaborating with program staff on more complex analyses, reporting needs, and quality-improvement initiatives. The analyst will work with information from multiple sources to examine factors related to cardiovascular health and violent deaths throughout Pennsylvania. Key Responsibilities Develop SQL queries and SAS code to extract, clean, validate, and analyze cardiovascular-health and fatality data. Perform monthly quality reviews of PA-WISE and PAVDRS data to identify and resolve completeness, accuracy, and compliance issues. Code, format, edit, and enter information into a web-based violent-death database according to national guidelines. Prepare detailed documentation for SQL queries, SAS programs, datasets, and analytical processes so work can be reproduced by other staff. Collaborate with program teams on analyses that measure program impact, describe populations served, identify community needs, and evaluate outcomes. Create fact-based reports and visualizations using tables, charts, maps, written narratives, and other effective presentation formats. Additional Responsibilities Help ensure mandatory data submitted to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accurate and compliant with program protocols. Apply Plan-Do-Check-Act and other quality-improvement tools to evaluate performance and guide program improvements. Provide technical assistance to program staff, contractors, and data users by explaining data-quality concerns and recommended resolutions. Analyze relevant Pennsylvania and national datasets. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and all applicable state and federal confidentiality requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have:
A bachelor's degree in statistics, health informatics, biostatistics, or a related field. At least two years of experience conducting exploratory data analysis involving data manipulation, report generation, and visualization. Demonstrated experience creating SQL queries. Experience using SAS and/or R for statistical analysis. Ability to prepare tables, charts, maps, narratives, and other data products. Strong analytical, documentation, organization, and communication skills. Technical Skills SQL and relational data concepts SAS and/or R Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Data cleaning, validation, manipulation, and quality assurance Statistical reporting and data visualization ArcGIS, Microsoft Visio, Power BI, or similar tools are a plus Workplace Expectations Wear a visible identification badge while in the building.
