Evaluates the performance of Pathology Laboratory Assistants, providing feedback and implementing improvement plans as necessary. Trains new Pathology Laboratory Assistants, ensuring they are proficient in laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Schedules Pathology Laboratory Assistants to ensure adequate coverage and optimal use of resources. Oversees the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working order. Provides advanced problem-solving support for customers and coworkers, addressing any issues that arise in the laboratory. Ensures compliance with regulatory and governmental requirements through ongoing quality assessment activities. Acts as a liaison with other departments to coordinate laboratory services and support. Manages inventory and works with vendors to ensure the availability of necessary supplies. Documents orientation and training of new employees and students, maintaining accurate records. Supports the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and document control. Facilitates workflow and resolves customer service issues within established guidelines. May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Manages daily operations of the pathology laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to quality control processes. Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to provide daily direction to pathology laboratory support staff [Required] Ability to monitor staff productivity and provide coaching feedback to increase quality and productivity standards [Required] Up-to-date pathology laboratory support services knowledge in order to appropriately evaluate effectiveness and identify factors that may impact desired outcomes [Required] Ability to maintain records and prepare reports/correspondence related to pathology laboratory support services [Required] Ability to address pathology laboratory support services complaints and escalate through established channels, as needed [Required] Ability to ensure departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements [Required] Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required] Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]Education:
