Full Job Description Overview:
Assists supervisor in planning, coordinating, implementation and monitoring of the Point-of-Care (POC) program to include system maintenance, training, quality control and administrative responsibilities at all sites performing POC testing. Trouble shoots instrument, software and technical errors. Performs Laboratory procedures, some advanced, requiring extra instrument knowledge and skills. Assists with the management and troubleshooting of the POC connectivity system. Acts as a project management liaison to vendors on special POC initiatives. Works with personnel at remote locations to identify system/network problems. Develops educational and training materials for POCT test systems used to teach and train allied health professional performing POC testing. Must be self-driven and able to work independently and as a team member. Must be able to use independent judgement to discern whether to report abnormal and normal results.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Specific coursework:
Medical Technology or related field (nursing, radiology, biology, chemistry, health sciences, paramedic studies, physics)
Preferred Education:
Bachelors degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology and nursing science field, including Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Radiology, Biology, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Paramedic Studies and Physics.
Necessary Skills:
1. Must be able to pass a color vision test or functional color assessment test administered by Employee Health. Technologist must inform Laboratory Administration if vision capabilities change to the extent the technologist can no longer perform tests/tasks accurately in the department. 2.Must become knowledgeable with State, Federal and Accreditation Standards and guidelines for all POC systems (i.e. College of American Pathologist, CMS, Joint Commission, etc.). 3.Must have proficiency with computer applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Health Stream, RALS-Web Excellent organizational and communication skills 4.Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures. 5.Ability to perform procedures requiring judgment with minimal supervision. 6.Ability to recognize abnormal results or testing problems and discuss and discuss with Supervisor, Manager, Physician, Nurse or Medical Director. 7.Ability to solve problems. Good written and verbal communication skills. 8.Ability to recognize and effectuate repairs of malfunctioning POCT equipment. 9.Ability to provide instruction and communicate to medical, para-medical or lay individuals. 10.Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work flow. 11.Good decision-making skills. Detailed-oriented. 12.Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
Required Licensure/Certifications:
Must have Florida licensure/Certification in one, or more: Medical Technology National Certification exams: MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MT (AMT), MT (AAB),or BB (ASCP) ( If they do not present documentation that the national exam has been passed at the end of 6 months they will be moved to a Medical Technologist I position and the pay will be adjusted accordingly.)
Clinical Laboratory Personnel Registered Nurse Radiologic Technology EMS/Paramedic Required Experience:
1
  • 2 years Clinical laboratory or related field
Preferred Experience:
Previous medical/hospital setting experience preferred with Point of Care testing equipment.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications:
MT or RN Certification
ABHI CHS/CHT
