This role oversees staffing, quality control, workflow efficiency, and regulatory compliance while providing technical expertise in microbiology. Enjoy a predictable weekday schedule without the burden of weekend or holiday shifts.
Requirements & Qualifications Must-Have Requirements Hospital Experience :
Previous experience as a Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist in a hospital setting is
REQUIRED.
Microbiology Experience :
Direct experience in Microbiology is
REQUIRED.
Certification / Licensure (One of the following required): Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) via ASCP, AMT, or equivalent agency Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) via AMT Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS-L) via
NCA Experience :
Minimum 1-2 years of related laboratory experience. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science or related field. 1-2 years of prior leadership or supervisory experience. Specialist certification in Microbiology or other specialized lab areas (e.g., SM, Hematology, Blood Bank).
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Operations & Quality Assurance Daily Supervision :
Direct and coordinate routine laboratory workflow, staffing, scheduling, and supply inventory to maintain continuous, high-efficiency operations.
Testing & Compliance :
Oversee microbiology testing processes to ensure accurate, timely results in full compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and internal accreditation standards. Quality Control (QC ): Manage quality control programs and proficiency testing; troubleshoot outliers, document corrective actions, and maintain audit-ready records.
Equipment & Inventory Management :
Monitor and maintain lab instruments, oversee preventive maintenance, and manage supply usage to minimize waste and optimize costs.
Process Improvement :
Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes, turnaround times, and overall operational efficiency.
Safety & Bench Work :
Maintain a compliant work environment adhering to infection control protocols. Perform complex bench testing and staff duties as needed.
Staff Leadership & Collaboration Team Development :
Train, coach, and evaluate laboratory personnel; conduct regular competency assessments to support staff growth and compliance.
Interdisciplinary Communication :
Collaborate effectively with laboratory administration, nursing teams, and physicians to maintain seamless service delivery.
Financial & Strategic Support :
Assist leadership with departmental budget monitoring, cost-effective reagent selection, and implementation of new technologies/protocols.
Skills & Competencies Technical Expertise :
In-depth knowledge of clinical microbiology, quality control practices, and healthcare regulatory compliance.
Leadership & Organization :
Strong team management, delegation, and time management skills under tight clinical deadlines.
Systems Proficiency :
Hands-on experience with healthcare software systems, laboratory information systems (LIS), data analysis tools, and Google/Microsoft platforms.
Problem Solving :
Advanced critical thinking for troubleshooting complex laboratory testing or operational challenges.
