The mission of The Eye Bank of Kentucky is to restore sight through corneal transplant, ocular research, and medical education. We promote eye, organ, and tissue donation while respecting and honoring the donors and their families who so selflessly give. We are a group of compassionate medical professionals dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through organ, tissue, and cornea donation. We recover, evaluate, prepare and distribute donated eye tissues. The Eye Bank of Kentucky is a non-profit charitable organization. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities involved in providing eye bank clinical services. Primary activities include supervision of staff, clinical procedures development and compliance, ensuring timely evaluation of tissue, compliance with applicable standards and regulations, donor eligibility determination training, lab maintenance, equipment maintenance and training of clinical staff to ensure donor ocular tissue is available to satisfy demand The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Ensure that routine lab environmental maintenance is performed according to policy and procedure, ensure equipment is qualified, calibrated, validated according to policy and procedure and per equipment manufacturers recommendations. 2. Ensure routine lab and equipment cleaning, maintenance and environmental monitoring is performed according to policy and procedure and per equipment manufacturers' recommendations. 3. Recruit, hire and train for all clinical staff positions and ensure they have a clear understanding of organizational goals, position expectations and responsibilities. 4. Perform and train clinical lab staff for donor screening, ocular tissue recovery, corneal tissue evaluation by slit lamp and specular microscopy, donor eligibility determination, and packaging and shipping of ocular tissue for transplant, research and medical education purposes. 5. Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures pertaining to staff training and clinical operations. 6. Ensure compliance with EBAA medical standards, state/federal laws and regulations, the eye bank's quality program and any/all lab procedures performed in EBKY lab facilities. 7. Coach, mentor and manage the daily activities of direct reports and ensure that all staff members have access to adequate information to perform their duties safely and competently. 8. Responsible for devising and maintaining clinical staff work schedules. 9. Ensure systems and resources are used efficiently to achieve objectives in a cost-effective manner and that staff have the proper qualifications and training for the performance of their job responsibilities. 10. Monitor and track direct reports successes and challenges including obtaining data from other management staff as necessary. 11. Perform quarterly and annual proficiency reviews for direct reports per policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Conduct evaluations for direct reports providing specific position performance feedback, both positive and corrective. 12. Donor eligibility determination and training of staff to perform donor eligibility determination. 13. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that is constructive in nature and promotes a productive work setting. 14. Facilitate a team approach through problem-solving and creative-thinking processes. 15. Maintain knowledge of surgical procedures including benefits, indications for use, and tissue preparation requirements. Collaborate with other staff to define ocular tissue needs in our service area. 16. Safeguard compliance of creating and maintaining eye bank clinical records. 17. Perform and ensure thorough and expeditious evaluation of corneal tissue. 18. Perform recovery of ocular tissue within the EBKY service area. 19. Support, as needed/necessary in following up on adverse reactions, adverse events, complaints, errors, accidents, deviations, etc., and assist in the reporting to regulatory agencies. Assist in the monitoring of any required/relevant corrective/preventative actions, etc. 20. Assist in the development of the annual clinical budget and advise management on capital equipment needs, cost(s), rationale for expenditure, utilization, and benefits to the

Other duties as assigned. Qualified applicants will meet the following education and experience guidelines: 1. Associate's/bachelor's degree, Master's preferred. 2. At least one year of experience in a supervisory role. 3. At least one year of experience using sterile technique. 4. At least one year of experience in eye banking. 5. At least one year of experience with Slit lamp and Specular Bio-microscope. 6. Certified Eye Bank Technician (CEBT) preferred. 7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Donor Databases 8. Meticulous and task oriented. 9. Ability to thrive in stressful situations. 10. Ability to think critically. Position is primarily based in two office/laboratory settings. Travel to work in both offices is required to manage direct reports. Travel to outside facilities for tissue recoveries can occur on a frequent basis. Work hours outside of regular business hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends, are necessary. Occasional stressful situations arise. This is a full-time exempt position. The Eye Bank of Kentucky services the community 24/7/365 and will require some holidays, weekends, and other shifts. The position will report to the Associate Director, Clinical Services.
