Full Job Description What We Offer:
Novant Health Cancer Institute is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist IV This position is in the new Cell Processing Lab of the Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Program.
Clinical Laboratory:
The team member is responsible for performing all duties of an MLS/MT as defined by the department. The team member will also have a combination of responsibilities which may include, but not be limited to: Key operator of specified instrumentation, inventory management, management of vendor relationships, and procedure development. The team member provides technical expertise and responds to technical questions; teaches, trains, and demonstrates laboratory protocols and methods, to include proper use of equipment and instrumentation. Responsible for complex problem solving of technical, computer, interdepartmental, and quality issues. Provides technical leadership and instruction to team members and students, to include oversight of maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety of performance. Experience in cryopreservation of cellular therapy products and flow cytometry is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Scientist Cert from ASCP or AMT (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB), required. Aids in the development of quality standards and programs; monitors and maintains quality of laboratory operations and performance of laboratory team members in compliance with accreditation standards, safety and environmental regulations and other applicable requirements.
Point of Care:
Team member serves as the POC testing compliance expert for assigned sites. Establishes, instructs, trains, troubleshoots, oversees, and coordinates all point-of-care activities. Inspects, prepares, and communicates monthly audits for all assigned locations to keep them abreast of their ongoing regulatory compliance. Serves as liaison and responsible party for applicable regulatory inspections (i.e., the College of American Pathologists and Joint Commission Point-of-Care inspections …etc.). Able to assess waived and non-waived competency for POC testing personnel, including but not limited to nursing, based on CLIA, TJC, and CAP requirements. In addition to performing the duties of a Point-of-Care Coordinator, the Point-of-Care Coordinator Lead prioritizes daily activities and workflow within the POC department and leads team meetings and huddles. Coordinates training and audit schedules, new POC instrument, equipment, and testing implementation projects, change communication within and outside of the POC department, IT validations related to POC testing, and policy and procedure development. The Point-of-Care Coordinator Lead interfaces with nursing and attends leader and shared governance meetings as required. The Point-of-Care Coordinator Lead drives Point-of-Care standardization across the system.
What We're Looking For:
Education:
4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology or MT program Preferred. If graduated before 1987, two-year certification is recognized as MT.
Experience:
Medical Laboratory Scientist:
Four years of relevant Laboratory experience, preferred. Minimum three years of experience as laboratory scientist including two years with moderate complexity testing, OR Minimum two years of experience with oversight of point of care testing, required.
Licensure/Certification:
Scientist Cert from ASCP or AMT (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB), required. Additional Skills/Requirements (required):
Clinical Laboratory:
All individuals who are newly certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004, must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are newly certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006, must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP). Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tests and communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation. Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
Point of Care:
Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Adobe. Possesses knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred: Specialist certifications from accreditation agencies.
