Job Description

Position Summary The Technical Lab Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision of testing personnel and the reporting of test results. In addition, the technical lab supervisor is responsible for lab instrument installation, validation, and inspection, and writing, reviewing and enforcing policies related to instruments. In the absence of the Medical and/or Administrative Directors, the supervisor is responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results. Primary Position Responsibilities Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high-complexity test performance by testing personnel and is accessible to staff to resolve technical problems in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assumes expert technical oversight of their lab specialty, ensuring timely, accurate and consistent reporting of test results. Evaluates and documents the performance (competency) of testing personnel based on the time frame of regulatory agencies and the Medical Center; Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications and quality control limits. Collaborates with the lab director. Works within the personnel and expense budgets assigned to the section. Is expected to perform bench testing as needed based on staffing and to assist the staff as needed. Responsible for maintaining Laboratory Information System as required for laboratory section supervision. Responsible for the installation, validation and inspection of their specialty instruments and the writing, reviewing and compliance with policies and procedures associated with those instruments. Additional duties/responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications Minimum Education :
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and qualifies as testing personnel under CLIA regulations.
Preferred:
Master's Degree Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation) :
Required:
4 years as a General Supervisor in a high complexity laboratory
Preferred:
At least 2 years as a technical supervisor
License, Registry or Certification :
Required:
ASCP registry in Medical Laboratory Science, or a specific registry in the specialty they will be supervising.
Preferred:
Specialist Certification from ASCP Knowledge, Skills and/or
Abilities :
Required:
Knowledgeable of state and federal laboratory regulations and CAP guidelines. Basic Microsoft Office, and LIS computer skills. Personnel skills. Expert laboratory skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Strong writing skills. Good customer service and telephone etiquette.
