Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Lab Assistant Supervisor to oversee laboratory operations within our healthcare facility. The successful candidate be responsible for the technical and/or direct supervision of laboratory associates and maintenance of policies, procedures, quality control and quality assurance practices within their respective departments. Duties include multiple lab locations. Responsibilities Performs all the duties and responsibilities of the Medical Technologist II. Analyzes workflow periodically to assure a high level of productivity, quality and comprehensive services centered on patient care. Monitors overtime to assure effective utilization of resources. Assists in determining the number and qualifications of staff associates in their respective area in order to successfully provide the services they are responsible for. Facilitates the assimilation of new associates into the system. Provides for a comprehensive orientation, competency assessment and periodic evaluation of associates. Assists in establishing, implementing and monitoring technical and administrative procedures for their respective department and P.O.C. testing to include quality control, quality assurance, standards of practice, waste management, information management and cost effective practices. Provides leadership by guiding, teaching, developing and motivating others to reach personal mastery. Identifies outstanding performers and counsel's associates who do not perform to standards or within the values of the system. Takes corrective action as necessary. Communicates effectively and maintains effective working relationships with others. Conducts staff meetings at regular intervals. Keep associates informed of organizational progress, activities and any change in policies, procedures, etc. Maintains appropriate levels of inventory to perform testing with a minimum number of emergency requests. Meets with sales and technical representatives of various supply and support vendors. Assists in the selection of new equipment. Maintains a close liaison with other hospital departments to assure coordination and quality of care. Promotes and maintains safety in the work environment as well as in associate job performance. Reports and investigates accidents and incidents promptly, assures anyone injured is treated appropriately, causes, determined and corrective action taken to avoid recurrence. Maintains competency by attending all mandatory education programs. Adheres to all appropriate regulatory and safety guidelines as set forth by the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and outside agencies. Performs other related duties as assigned. Demonstrates positive interrelationships and service excellence in the performance of duties by meeting or exceeding the expectations of internal and external service groups. Requirements A.S.C.P Certification as a Specialist preferred, NYS License Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related discipline. Master of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related discipline preferred. Six years Clinical Laboratory experience. Mathematical, computer reasoning and language skills at the college level (4 years)
